Chief Investment Officer
Michael Reynal leads the Sophus Capital Team and is a portfolio manager responsible for the Sophus Capital strategies.
Prior to joining Sophus, Mr. Reynal led the Emerging Markets Team at Principal Global Investors, encompassing markets in Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Michael originally constructed the PGI EM team and process in 2001. The team then left Principal to join RS Investments in 2012, which was later acquired by Victory Capital and renamed Sophus Capital in 2016.
Over this time, Mr. Reynal also oversaw both diversified emerging markets portfolios and specialized regional Asian equity strategies. Prior to joining Principal in 2001, Michael was responsible for equity investments in Latin America, the Mediterranean and the Balkans while at Wafra Investment Advisory Group Inc. in New York. Michael also spent four years with Paribas Capital Markets in New York in international equities and three years with Barclays de ZoeteWedd in London focusing on Latin American equities.
Mr. Reynal received a BA in history from Middlebury College, an MA in history from the University of Cambridge, and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He also has additional language skills in Spanish, French, and German.
